Maximise your roadside recovery business

The Automobile Association (AA) and the ‘Road Training Unit’ are committed to improving and maintaining the standard of Breakdown and Recovery Technicians training.

We have been delivering this type of training for several years, in 2009 we moved into external training.

We are an ‘Approved Training Centre’ for the ‘Institute of Vehicle Recovery’ (IVR) with members of the training unit holding the relevant qualifications to train both internal and external delegates. We therefore, offer a comprehensive range of ‘VR’ modules for Light Recovery. The members of the training team have worked along side SURVIVE, IMI and the IVR to improve the standard within the industry.

The Vehicle Recovery (VR) modules have become the accepted standard within the Breakdown and Recovery Industry as specified under the ‘National Highways Sector Scheme’ (NHSS17).

Why modulise the training?

  • Structured, more efficient training.

  • Easier to assess knowledge and competence levels.

  • More specific training.

  • Improve learning

Certification:

To obtain I.V.R. UK Ltd certification, delegates must attend training courses delivered by ITSSAR – qualified trainers recognised by the IVR.

To qualify for the Roadside Technicians ID card you must attend and pass the three core modules

  • VR01   Health and Safety

  • VR02   Customer Service

  • VR03   Assessing the Roadside Situation

This qualifies you to apply for a red ID card enabling you to work out on the roadside as a ‘Roadside Technician’

To qualify for a ‘Recovery Technician’ ID card you must attend and pass the three core modules and a further module(s) specific to your job role. This will then entitle you to apply for a blue card.
